Dr. J is proud to offer an exciting new option in facial rejuvenation. Juvéderm Vollure XC, or simply Vollure. This injectable-based treatment from the Juvederm family of facial fillers has been praised by patients and doctors alike for its ability to improve or erase moderate to severe wrinkling in certain portions of the face for as long as 18 months. It has been especially useful for patients dealing with nasolabial folds (i.e., smile lines or laugh lines). Dr. J has chosen to offer the product because of its effectiveness and the high level of satisfaction reported by patients; as many as 82 percent have reported being satisfied with their results after a period of six months.
How does Vollure work?
Like other Juvederm products, Vollure’s primary ingredient is hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance found naturally in the human body. One major difference, however, is that Vollure is specially formulated using a custom engineered variation of Vycross technology from Juvederm’s manufacturers, which combines HA molecules of various weights for a more effective and long lasting smoothing effect.
Who Should Obtain a Vollure Treatment?
Any woman or man who wants to deal with facial wrinkles, particularly laugh lines, may want to consult Dr. J to see if Vollure might be a good option in her or his case. It is approved by the FDA for treating moderate to severe wrinkling and folds in patients age 22 and over, though its safety has not yet been established during pregnancy and while nursing children.
If you are considering Vollure, you should inform Dr. J immediately if any of the following apply:
- You are planning chemical peel or laser treatments
- There is a skin injury near the injection site
- You have a history of excessive scarring and pigmentation problems, such as keloids of hypertrophic scarring.
- You are on immunosuppressive therapy
- You are using drugs that thin the blood, including NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen (Motrin).
What Side Effects are Possible?
The most common side effects are mild to moderate and typically go away in a week or less. These including redness, swelling, discomfort/itching, bruising and sometimes a bumpy or firm texture. More serious side effects are typically related to accidental injection into a blood vessel, which is one reason this procedure is best performed by a highly experienced, double-board certified physician such as Dr. J.
